Mon 28th May to Fri 1st June 2018
Come along to the Flea Circus Week at the Workhouse this May half term for amazing tales of the Victorian flea circus, vintage games and lots more besides!
In the 19th century paupers often arrived at the Workhouse with a collection of mites and fleas, where they had to be de-infested. During this time people were fascinated by performing fleas and there were many travelling circuses where these miniature mites performed feats of strength and skill!
This half term the Workhouse will be revealing amazing tales of flea circuses along with fun activities such as:
· dress your own flea
· bake a circus animal biscuit
· and beat the lion tamer.
Take part in circus games, watch a traditional Punch and Judy show and then follow the flea circus trail (with a treat when complete). Don’t worry about getting infested yourself as no real fleas will be present!
If the weather is sunny then you can wander around the Workhouse Garden and see if you can spot our hedgehog family!
All activities are included with admission and family tickets available. The Workhouse Museum is on Allhallowgate, Ripon, for more details please visit www.riponmuseums.co.uk
