Let your child’s imagination run wild with our themed Active funday playschemes in the school holidays suitable for children in years 1 – 6. There’s a different theme each day and children can contribute their ideas at the start of the day. Activities include arts and crafts, games, sports and free play; all run by our friendly team of activity leaders.
Our Ofsted regulated playschemes are held at Jennyfield Styan Community Centre Harrogate, Knaresborough Community Centre, Nidderdale Pool and Leisure Centre and Ripon Leisure Centre. Children are welcome to stay for a full day, short day or half idea but please be advised that booking is essential.

The Art Week is an art holiday workshop hosted at Fleetham Lodge, North Yorkshire; welcoming children aged 5 to 12 to come make and learn all things fine art!
Each day will be jam packed with ambitious art projects – looking at current exhibitions in the surrounding areas the art kids will be making their own incredible art work inspired by these exhibiting artists throughout the whole week. With a varied range of materials and a diverse selection of artists we will include many art mediums from sculpture, print making, painting, outdoor installations, drawing and much much more!
There will even be fantastic workshops run by visiting artists throughout the week and an end of week Art Kids exhibition!
There’s a two day minimum sign up, or a fantastic discount if you book your child in for the full 5 days!
The art days run from 9am – 3:30pm. Please pack your child a packed lunch, a snack and an apron/messy clothes!

Mondays – become a garden apprentice and learn a new skill with the gardening team
Tuesdays – head to the hall for some bug busting with the conservation team
Wednesdays and Fridays – go ‘artrageous!’ designing your own garden and inventing your own creature in the hayloft
Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August – celebrate all things Yorkshire from culinary delights to art activities
Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August – rejoice the mighty bee with talks, crafts and tastings
Climb the pyramid tower, pick up an explorer backpack or dress up as lord or lady of the hall, there are activities inside and out, come rain or shine.
We’re open every day 10.30am – 5pm. All the activities are free and normal admissions apply.
In June and July, see the beautiful summer coats of the Red, Fallow and Sika deer and spot the recently born fawns and calves.
In August, spot the stags and bucks resting before the exertion of the autumn rut with their fully grown antlers which have lost their velvet. Meanwhile, the growing young deer will be finding their feet and confidence.

Sitting high above the garden the Banqueting House is hidden away in a secluded spot – perfect for wildflowers to thrive. Join our volunteer team to learn about the flowers that make their home there.

Drop into Swanley Grange workshop for some crafty fun. Make your very own journey stick and decorate it with nature from around the estate as you go.

Pull on your monks robes before setting off on a journey around the monastic landscape to learn all about how the monks lived in the abbey’s heyday.
26th July, 9th August and 23rd August

Newts, water lice, water boatmen, molluscs, pea mussels…there’s an extraordinary world waiting to be discovered under the surface of the still ponds in the water garden. We’ll provide the nets, identification charts and the pots so you can see what you might find. Pop along to the water garden moon ponds to have a go at this drop-in session.

Throughout the summer school holidays 8 to 15 year olds can get unlimited use of the Hydro, Knaresborough pool, Starbeck Baths, Ripon Spa Baths and Nidderdale Pool with a junior swim pass.
Youngsters can make a splash, improve their swimming technique and have fun with friends in our general swim sessions or family fun inflatable sessions.
The pass costs just £30 for the summer holiday (valid from 19 July until 2 September 2019) and can be bought at any of the pool receptions.
WITCHES & WIZARDS
This Summer Holiday, you have been accepted at Mother Shipton’s School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Visit the Wuthering Woodland, be sorted into a school house and meet your magic teachers. Attend all your lessons including Broomstick Training and Potions to become a qualified Witch or Wizard!
The attraction will be transformed into a mystical and magical event for all the family.Saturday 20thJuly to Sunday 1stSeptember, 10am to 5.30pm (last admission 4.30pm).
See the Petrifying Well and Mother Shipton’s Cave. The park has scenic picnic areas alongside the popular River Nidd, an adventure playground, gift shop and museum.

20 July – 1 Sept: The Very Hungry Caterpillar™
Families are being encouraged to get a wiggle on and head to RHS Garden Harlow Carr as The Very Hungry Caterpillar™descends on the garden for the summer holidays. The best-selling children’s book, published by Penguin Books, celebrates 50 years since its first publication this year. Eric Carle’s much-loved classic will be brought to life with giant willow sculptures, 3D apples and pears, hands-on craft activities and storytelling with the Garden Detectives. Children can follow a daily garden trail in search of the Very Hungry Caterpillar, enjoy birds-of-prey flying displays and make their own caterpillar hat. Activities vary daily.
